Coat of Arms from Carroll M. Salls "Salls Families of the United States and Canada" Salls Family Coat of Arms

The Salls Coat of Arms illustrated at left was drawn by a heraldic artist from information officially recorded in the ancient heraldic archives. Documentation for the Salls Coat of Arms design can be found in Burke's General Armory. Heraldic artists of old developed their own unique language to describe an individual Coat of Arms.

From Salls Families of the United States and Canada, by Carroll M. Salls, Phd., Gateway Press, Baltimore, MD, USA, 1973.

In the language of the heraldic artists, the Arms (Sheild) is as follows:

"OR, ON A BEND ENGR. SA. THREE FLEURS-DE-LIS OF THE FIRST."

When translated, the Arms description is "Gold, on a black left diagonal band, engrailed, three gold fleur-de-lis."

Above the sheild and helmet is the crest which is described as:

"A PHEON SA."

When translated, the crest description is "A black dart head."
